Hi, my name is River! Owner and eye behind River Underwood Photography!

I began my photography journey in the spring of 2021 after Covid-19’s main impact had passed. While photography has always been a significant interest of mine, it was never something that I could really get into with the plethora of other things that I had going on in my life, however, at the time I was in preparation for welcoming my son, Mordecai, to the world. With all this in mind, I decided that it would be a good time to invest in a cheap camera to capture all the moments in his younger years, at least that was the plan. After receiving the camera in the mail, I was ecstatic to learn about it and how everything with a camera, that wasn’t my phone, worked!

After only a few short days, I began understanding how composition, lighting, and position worked together to form perfect imagery. I worked tirelessly for weeks to master as much as I possibly could prior to my son being born, and within this short time, I had become confident in my abilities, enough to turn it into a small business. I owe a ton of my knowledge to Peter McKinnon and his excellent tutorials and informational videos, as without him I would have never been able to crunch this much information in such a short time frame.

That leads us here, to River Underwood Photography, a small one-man show! I edit, shoot, process, and manage everything by myself and ensure that every single pixel that my customers receive is as perfect as they could ever imagine! I primarily shoot in the Blue Ridge mountains and love every second of shooting in these serene mountain ranges!
